Mayor Derrick Wood Launches Re-Election Campaign with Strong Community Support and Key Endorsements

DUMFRIES, VA (March 24, 2026) — Mayor Derrick R. Wood officially launched his re-election campaign Tuesday evening with a strong and focused gathering of supporters, elected officials, and community leaders at a kickoff reception in Dumfries.

Approximately 50 attendees were present, including a broad cross-section of regional leadership, signaling early momentum and a committed coalition supporting Wood’s continued leadership.

The campaign also received a major boost with a public endorsement from Congressman Eugene Vindman, announced earlier in the day.

“I am proud to endorse Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood for reelection,” said Congressman Eugene Vindman. “Mayor Wood is a committed public servant who has led the Town of Dumfries with dedication for nearly eight years… he has earned the trust of his community through steady, forward-looking leadership.”

“This campaign is not about ambition — it is about stewardship,” said Mayor Wood. “Dumfries didn’t get here by accident, and it will not move forward by chance. We’ve built real progress, and now it’s time to protect it and finish what we started.”

Among those in attendance were members of the Virginia General Assembly, Prince William Board of County Supervisors, School Board, current and former elected officials, and members of the Dumfries Town Council.

Notable attendees included Delegate Luke Torian, Delegate Angela Margaret Franklin, Senator Jeremy McPike, Senator Jennifer Carroll-Foy, Councilman Russell Young, Councilwoman Catrina Peterson, Supervisor Andrea Bailey, Supervisor Victor Angry, Supervisor Boydee, and School Board Member Tracy Blake, along with several former elected officials and community leaders.

Delegate Brianna Sewell, who was unable to attend, has formally endorsed Mayor Wood’s re-election campaign.

Additional endorsements are expected in the coming weeks, including support from Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan and Congressman Don Beyer.

Together, these endorsements reflect a growing regional and federal coalition aligned around continued progress, economic development, and community investment in Dumfries.

Under Wood’s leadership, Dumfries has achieved historic milestones, including:

  • Transforming a former landfill into what will become Overlook Park
  • Advancing the development of The Rose Gaming Resort, bringing significant private investment to the town
  • Securing the town’s first-ever municipal bond rating and achieving consecutive clean audits
  • Moving forward major infrastructure improvements, including Route 1 enhancements and flood mitigation efforts
  • Acquiring key waterfront property to position Dumfries for long-term redevelopment

Looking ahead, Wood emphasized that the work is not finished. His vision for the next term includes advancing waterfront redevelopment, revitalizing Main Street, and expanding economic opportunities for residents and local businesses.

The campaign will focus on building on the progress already made while ensuring Dumfries continues to grow in a way that is strategic, sustainable, and community-driven.
