Mayor Wood Confirms Plans to Seek Re-Election Following Community Calls for Clarity

Dumfries, VA — In recent days, Mayor Derrick R. Wood has received outreach from residents, business owners, and community leaders requesting clarity regarding his plans for the upcoming mayoral election. In response to those requests, Mayor Wood issued the following statement:

“Over the past several days, members of our community — including residents, business owners, and civic leaders — have reached out urging me to speak clearly about my intentions for the future. I appreciate that trust and the desire for stability and certainty.

I want to be clear and correct recent reports: I do plan to run for re-election as Mayor of the Town of Dumfries.
My commitment to this community has not changed. Together, we have made meaningful progress strengthening our finances, investing in infrastructure, and positioning Dumfries for long-term success. I believe the important work underway deserves steady leadership through its next phase.

Right now, my focus remains on governing — delivering results, managing growth responsibly, and serving the people of Dumfries every day.

I will make a formal campaign announcement this spring. Until then, I remain fully engaged in the responsibilities of this office and committed to the future of our town.”

Mayor Wood has served as Mayor of Dumfries since 2018 and has been a member of the Dumfries Town Council since 2012.
