From Connection to Calling: A Transformational Day at a Ghanaian Leadership School

Where Leadership, Faith, and Creativity Converged

April 1, 2026

Some days you attend.
Some days you witness.
And some days… you experience something that stays with you.

Our visit to a leadership and media-focused school in Accra, Ghana was one of those days.

What began as a simple engagement quickly became a powerful reminder of what happens when leadership, faith, and purpose align.

Starting with Leadership: A Private Moment of Alignment

The day began in a private meeting with the school’s leadership team.

Alongside members of the Derrick Wood Foundation travel delegation, we sat down to discuss vision, purpose, and the future of leadership development across Africa and the diaspora.

This wasn’t small talk.

It was a real conversation about:

  • developing talent
  • building opportunity
  • and shaping the next generation of leaders and creators

Because institutions like this are doing more than educating students.

They are equipping builders of culture, business, and innovation.

From Meeting to Movement: A Spirit-Filled Worship Experience

From there, we transitioned into an early Easter worship service.

More than 500 students—ranging from young adults stepping into their future—filled the space with energy, praise, and expectation.

This wasn’t passive attendance.

It was engagement.

Voices lifted.
Hands raised.
Faith expressed openly and powerfully.

In that moment, it became clear:

This school is not just developing skills.

It is nurturing spirit, identity, and purpose.

Speaking Life: A Message That Became a Movement

When it was time to speak, the message was simple:

Engage. Elevate. Excel.

Anchored in Ephesians 3:20—the idea that God can do immeasurably more than we can imagine—the goal was not just to inspire…

It was to activate.

And that activation came through call and response.

Students didn’t just listen—they declared:

“I am a creator.”
“I will not bury my gift.”
“My hands can build my future.”
“Why not me?”

Each response grew louder.

Each moment built confidence.

Each declaration shifted identity.

Because when young people begin to speak differently about themselves,
they begin to see themselves differently.

And when they see themselves differently…

They begin to move differently.

A School of Creators

What made this moment even more powerful is the diversity of talent within the school.

These students are not limited to one path.

They are creators across industries:

  • media and content production
  • fashion, makeup, and costume design
  • hospitality and experience creation
  • technology and digital innovation

They are learning to shape culture.

To influence markets.

To build businesses.

To tell stories.

This is what modern leadership looks like.

The Moment of Recognition

At the conclusion of the service, the day took an unexpected and humbling turn.

I was presented with the Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Award for Pan-African Leadership by the Pan-African Leadership Institute.

An honor rooted in a legacy of unity, self-reliance, and global African connection.

But in that moment, the recognition felt bigger than an individual achievement.

It represented something deeper:

A shared commitment to building bridges between Africa and the diaspora.

A recognition that local leadership—when done with purpose—can have global impact.

More Than a Visit

What took place that day was not just a visit.

It was a reminder.

That leadership is not confined by geography.

That purpose is not limited by background.

And that the next generation is not waiting…

They are already rising.

Final Reflection

The message was simple.

Engage what’s inside you.
Elevate how you think.
Excel in what you do.

Because the future is not just imagined.

It is created.

And based on what we witnessed in that room…

The future is in capable hands.
