Clean Audit. Again.

January 8, 2026

Why This Matters to Dumfries

When people hear the phrase clean audit, it can sound technical or distant. But to me, it means something very simple: trust.

For the second consecutive year, the Town of Dumfries has received a clean audit from an independent auditor. That may not come with a ribbon-cutting or a press conference, but it matters deeply — because it tells our residents that their town is being managed responsibly.

What a Clean Audit Really Means

In plain language, a clean audit means independent professionals reviewed the Town’s finances and found no major issues, no red flags, and no misuse of public funds.

It’s a financial check-up — and Dumfries passed. Again.

More importantly, it confirms that the systems, controls, and people behind the scenes are doing things the right way, every day.

Why the Second Year Matters

Anybody can have a good year. Leadership is about consistency.

Earning a second consecutive clean audit tells me — and should reassure you — that responsible financial management isn’t a one-time achievement. It’s a standard we hold ourselves to.

This kind of consistency builds confidence:

  • Confidence that public dollars are being handled with care
  • Confidence that growth is being managed, not rushed
  • Confidence that progress is grounded in accountability

What This Means for You

At the end of the day, this is about respect for the people who call Dumfries home.

A clean audit means:

  • Your tax dollars are being used as intended
  • The Town is planning for the future responsibly
  • Decisions are being made with transparency and discipline

It’s reassurance that while we continue to invest in our community, we’re doing so thoughtfully and with care.

Growth Without Losing Our Footing

Dumfries is growing — and that’s a good thing. Growth brings opportunity, energy, and possibility. But growth also requires discipline.

This audit confirms that as we move forward, we’re not cutting corners or losing focus on the fundamentals. We’re building carefully, managing resources wisely, and protecting the trust you’ve placed in us.

Why I Believe This Matters

Clean audits don’t make headlines, but they are one of the clearest indicators of good governance.

Two years. Two clean audits.

To me, that’s not about celebrating. It’s about confidence — confidence that Dumfries is being managed the right way today and positioned responsibly for tomorrow.

Thank you for trusting us with your town.
